GOR Roadtrip – Day One
New plates for the car FINALLY arrived.
Got pulled over 2 minutes from home because I still had the old plates on – was en route to Les’s so he could drill some holes in these ones so they’d fit, but apparently my old plates were now unregistered or some crap. Anyhoo, all sorted now.
Time to start the Great Ocean Road roadtrip…
Got to Kingston – couldn’t resist a photo of epic surf n turf:
The girl had a drive so I could enjoy the view.
We were down to the last two “bars” on the fuel gauge, for some reason she didn’t feel like filling up in Mount Gambier so we figgered the next town would be fine. Got about 20km out of The Mount and one of the bars had evaporated.
This did not bode well – do we turn around or hope there’s a servo somewhere in the next 20km? It’s still about 90km to our destination town and we don’t know if there’s any between…
Another town pops up on the radar – Heywood, “only” 50km away, the fuel light has come on.
It’s still 25km away and the last bit of the fuel gauge has now disappeared – we are feeling an embarrassing call to the RAA in our imminent future.
Somehow we made it all the way – the car has a 40L tank, I think this is about as close as you’ll get.
Got to where we were staying in Port Fairy – The Douglas – a pleasant enough joint right on the riverbank. Dinner was at The Stag which amused us somewhat, very good food, no phone though so no food porn.
Doofus was not amused.
