Victory
Felt like going for a long Sunday drive today, but was at a loss for direction. Was also aching for a good slab of meat.
Hit up Twitter and AE for suggestions – out of the thousands of possible respondees and destinations, two friends from polar opposites both answered within minutes to say I should go to The Victory Hotel in Sellicks Beach. This was too much of a coincidence to not behold and serve.
As it turns out SJ who posited the idea on Twitter was keen to come for an adventure, also MHH via AE had time to burn too and was itchy to take the Ferrari for a run, so that all worked out great – met at the servo and then got underway.
Man, my car is smaaaaall.
We hit a fair bit of traffic until nearing McLaren Vale, but hell it was a nice drive.
That F458 is such a spaceship. If you took it to the NT it would make the front page of the news to declare the existence of aliens.
MHH parted ways with us near Willunga to beat his own path.
We continued on to Victory, got the oysters and scallops for entree, fucking delicious but $16 bucks for 3 scallops (and accompaniment)… are you kidding me? I grew up in a scallop-hunting family on the Yorke Peninsula, we would get them by the 44-gallon drum-load, are they endangered now or some shit?
Steaks for mains (scotch and eye), both deadset dandy.
When I first met Miss SJ last year she was on the verge of becoming a crazy vegan – thought she was playing a trick on me when she said she wanted a steak, and then ate the whole thing and loved it. I’m either the victim of a prank that took over a year to set up, or I feel like a proud meat-father.
Wonder if Jordyn’s brief mention to her yesterday about an apparently very funny and informative book called The Meat Fix where a vego went from being sick and fat to awesome just by eating meat had any weight…
Sadly didn’t manage to get any pics of SJ’s hilarious attempts at ingress/egress of the Lotus with her 9″ hooker heels, for a mental image picture a daddy long legs escaping a plug hole.
Went for a burn down to the land of SJ’s childhood – Myponga – some fantastic scenery around there, will hit up my mate Kebabs the photog for a shoot there with the car soon, so many great photo ops – none of which we bothered to stop for because it was raining at this stage.
Dropped in to Lazy Ballerina on the way home for a quick catch-up with SJ’s fam, the idea of relaxing with some wine was very tempting, but kind of antithetical to the idea of driving home.
The old man was keen to show off his new-ish toy – an Alfa GTV. A small and sporty car, still monstered the little Lotus.
Fab drive back, picked up this Crystal Skull Vodka on the way home, $94 bucks a bottle, but damn what a nice bottle.
I WANT TO DRINK YOUR BRAAAAIIIINNNSS
