Inception – the idea movie
I was a long time non-believer in this whole reality gig – so it wasn’t so much an epiphany for me (as is being reported) but just a reminder of what I used to ponder.
A really good movie though, a bit slow and dull sometimes when they really could have still added a bit of humour and REAL depth to it without ruining it for the mediocre ticket-buying masses.
I got the feeling though they were trying really hard not to tread on The Matrix’s toes.
For me it’s kinda annoying – I’m sure there’s much more to the film I’ll notice on 2nd/3rd/8th viewing, but I don’t think it was interesting/paced-well enough for me to feel like watching again, like I would other modern mainstream subconcious movies like Matrix/12 Monkeys/Vanilla Sky/Fight Club etc.
The concepts and the way they handled them were great – I think they did a top job of bringing stuff that some folk have thought about a long time to the mainstream so a lot of people can think/talk about these vague dreamy concepts with a bit more clarity and cohesiveness together, but yeah it will also bring out another surge of the cockeyed front.
Being a non-teevee/radio-watcher-listener I hadn’t seen much but still heard plenty of hype through other channels – so I can only imagine the hype in the normal commercial arenas, and I really don’t think it’d live anywhere up to it.
Unless you’d never spent more than 20 minutes questioning the basis of reality.
