Optifast Ketogenic Diet Scam

optifast-ketosisJust saw an ad on teevee with a chubby chick talking about how her doctor or whatever suggested a ketogenic diet for weight loss as blah blah ketosis switches your body to burning fat etc – and then goes on to talk about an Optifast VLCD (very low calorie diet) system is the best way, basically a whole bunch of wacky ingredient shake meal replacements.

TRANSITION PHASE

2 Optifast® VLCD™ sachets or bars

1 low calorie meal (approximately 400 calories)

At least 2 cups of low-starch vegetables

1 serve of fruit

1 serve of dairy

Two litres of water

This Phase provides 800-1000 calories per day.

800 calories is about 200g of steak without any butter sauce, basically a piece of meat that will barely cover your palm – imagine living on that… what a miserable existence!

They’ve really set these things up for failure to keep struggling overweight people on the program, because the program would be almost impossible to keep up with, therefore when the subject inevitably cheats the problem is with them, not the program.

If they just ate steak and bacon and eggs covered in butter they’d get better results, but hey instead make them eat fruit and dairy and junk shakes.

Ketosis is most likely to occur when you begin the Optifast® VLCD™ Intensive Phase (3 Optifast® VLCD products per day). When consuming 3 Optifast® VLCD™ products per day- (along with the 2 or more cups of low starch vegetables, 2 litres of water, and 1 teaspoon of oil) you will consume an amount of carbohydrates for your body to begin Ketosis.

You can also achieve this by eating steak and bacon and eggs covered in butter.

The Intensive Phase of the Optifast® VLCD™ Program is the only phase that ensures minimal intake of carbohydrate to kick-start the ketosis process. Although the hunger from ketosis is a little uncomfortable to begin with (normally lasts around 3 days), the advantage of ketosis is that once the initial hunger subsides, ketosis causes a reduction in appetite and this can help manage your caloric intake through the Intensive weight loss Phase of the Program.

All of which happens with steak and eggs and bacon covered in butter…

Man, I think they’ve made a huge mistake by actually exposing their meal-tickets to the term “ketosis”, all you have to do is read a little on it and realise you don’t need any of their products to achieve it…

Just looked up the nutrition profile of their meal replacement shakes – it’s 1/3 sugar AND it contains sweeteners, the rest is…
